Wherever the Blue Moon GS came from, someone down the line really wanted to imitate Seath’s Moonlight. The description of the weapon even says that it is believed to have been born of Seath, before acknowledging that it is “lifeless” and wondering if there was some mistake. Maughlin and Magerold both say they think it’s fake. The Blue Moon GS is a fake MLGS wielded by Benhart’s family.
In DkS3 we get it from the Soul of Oceiros, who may have been warped by Seath’s insanity, although the description mentions that Oceiros never found Moonlight, although he sought it like Seath did. In DkS2 we obtain it by transposing Seath’s Lord Soul fragment, further suggesting that it may have become a part of Seath. He goes for modern psychiatric treatment, which at first looks promising but with time it turns out that not everything is as beautiful as it seems. I insisted to change to wing of Astel but I kept dying and dying.

It’s a representation of Moonlight, which Seath sought for some reason. It doesnt mean anything for the lore, its just a nod to their earlier games. In DkS1 we obtain it by slicing of Seath’s tail, implying that Seath may have found the MLGS and made it a part of his being. The model used by Old Moonlight, is, in fact, the same model of the MLGS from Kings Field. My headcanon is that Priscilla and Yorshka shared this affinity for Moonlight, so Seath performed similar experiments on them. Gwyndolin was born with an affinity for Moonlight, and I personally believe that this made him a person of interest to Seath, who may have been the one to turn him into the snakey boi we know and love.

This is a player-created Build for Dark Souls. Some background: Only other Soulsborne game I've ever played was Bloodborne, and I fell in love with the Holy Moonlight Blade in it. It’s a representation of Moonlight, which Seath sought for some reason. Maybe I'm just using it wrong, but for all the work I went through for this weapon, it's really terrible.
